Freedom is Democracy Castrovillari returns to Sibari airport and the need to restart the process dedicated to a project that has ended up in the Region’s memory drawer.
In fact, a long silence fell on the Sybarite port. Yet, a few years ago, precisely on 3 December 2000, the joint public-private company was established, responsible for its construction, with 500 thousand euros of funding and the area identified for its location. The Municipality of Castrovillari, led by the mayor Franco Fortunato, was one of the main “protagonists of the establishment of the mixed company, which many entrepreneurs joined”. «I myself, in my capacity as deputy mayor – underlines the coordinator of Libertà è Democracy, Gianni Donato – participated in all the constitutive meetings, until the deed of incorporation was signed between Antonio Acri, president of the Province, and Roberto Senise, mayor of Cassano». The airport should have been a third level airport, both for passengers but mainly used by agricultural companies in the area to export agri-food products.
