«My thoughts, not today but yesterday and tomorrow, go in particular to two men of the Coast Guard: I want to mention them by name and surname, Francesca Perfido and Nicola Nania who are on trial for negligent shipwreck and I am horrified, in compliance with the separation of powers, at the idea that someone could hypothesize that men of the Coast Guard did not do everything possible to save lives, it is simply unacceptable».
The Minister of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, said this, referring to the trial on the Cutro shipwreck, during his greeting speech in the port of Bari, where he took part in the presentation of the project for the new docks.
The message to the Coast Guard
“A thought for the coast guard,” said Salvini, “since next week is the 161st birthday of the coast guard, so a hug to the 11,388 men and women who risk their lives today to save other lives.”
