Voting operations for the renewal of the Metropolitan Council of Messina began this morning at 8am and will continue until 10pm today. A total of 1274 people entitled to express their preference, including mayors and municipal councilors of the 108 local authorities in the province, who will choose the 14 members of the Palazzo dei Leoni assembly which will be chaired, once again, by the metropolitan mayor Federico Basile. Six lists are in the field (Forza Azzurra for Metropolitan City Messina, Greater Sicily, South Call North, Fratelli d’Italia Giorgia Meloni, Lega Salvini and Democratic Party). The counting will begin from tomorrow.

The definitive turnout
The final turnout recorded at 10 pm shows an overall participation of 82.73%, with 1,054 voters who went to the polls. In detail, 681 men voted, equal to a turnout of 86.31%, while there were 373 women voters, with a turnout percentage of 76.91%. The data therefore confirms a high participation, above 80%, highlighting a gap of around ten percentage points between men and women in voter participation.
