The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry has issued the decree recognizing the exceptional nature of the meteorological events that hit Calabria between 17 January and 17 February 2026, linked to Cyclone Harry. The declaration, signed by the minister Francesco Lollobrigida, allows the activation of the interventions of the National Solidarity Fund (FSN) in favor of damaged fishing and aquaculture companies.
The provision implements the proposal put forward by the Calabria Region with Council Resolution no. 208 of 28 April 2026, integrated by subsequent technical notes from the Agriculture Department. The Region has estimated overall damage amounting to 1,476,766.84 euros, which concerns both fish production and the boats and equipment of the local fleets.
“The Ministry’s declaration – states the regional councilor Gianluca Gallo – represents a fundamental step to guarantee rapid and adequate compensation for fishing and aquaculture businesses. The Region worked promptly to provide Masaf with a timely survey of the damage and the areas involved. Now we can activate the necessary tools to support the economic recovery of a strategic sector for our coastal communities”.
The territories affected by the declaration are the municipality of Carlopoli (CZ), the municipality of San Pietro a Maida (CZ) and the municipalities of Bagnara Calabra (RC) and Cariati (CS).
In the next few days, the department will provide further details for the submission of compensation requests which must be complete with technical reports and documentation proving the actual damage suffered.
