On a cool summer evening, the Cataldi Amphitheater in the Arbëresh village of San Giorgio Albanese welcomed the presentation of Salvatore Franco’s novel published by Edizioni Beroe and financed by the Ministry of Culture. The writer Francesca Librandi dictated the themes of the evening starting from the institutional greetings of the mayor Gianni Gabriele and the President of the VI Commission of the Regional Council which includes linguistic minorities, Elisabetta Santoianni.
The mayor explained his plan to make Arbëresh a subject of study in schools which, together with families, are a fundamental resource for passing on the language. According to the regional councilor, the Calabria Region must also continue to enhance the Arbëria by supporting concrete projects. Readings and performances of popular musical pieces alternated the questions posed to the author of the novel “Il Ghiegghio e il wolf”. «San Giorgio Albanese showed particular interest – declares Renato Costa – listening to the story of Salvatore Franco who in his book tells of the suggestive landscapes proposed by the Pollino National Park.
