The 2026 edition of the Sportiness Index, the annual ranking drawn up by PTS Sport on 107 Italian provinces and published by Sole 24 Ore, provides a complex snapshot of the sporting system of Southern Italy but at the same time clearly highlights the leadership of the province of Catanzaro in the regional context; position which, moreover, certifies its excellence at a national level.

“Being the first province in our region – declares the sports councilor Antonio Battaglia – is an important confirmation, but what fills us with pride is the second national place in sports training because it demonstrates that in our territory there are intelligence, skills and passion capable of competing at the highest Italian levels”.

In the Sole 24 Ore ranking, the data with the greatest prestige and prospective value for Catanzaro actually emerges from the specific indicator dedicated to Training for Sport, where our territory achieved an extraordinary 2nd place overall in Italy with a score of 975.8 points, positioning itself immediately behind Campobasso and preceding places of great tradition such as Pisa, Pavia and Rimini. The parameter measures the quality and presence of university courses, master’s degrees, ITS courses and sports-oriented high schools.

Even in the general ranking, the area of Catanzaro makes a good impression, confirming itself as the best in Calabria in 86th place nationally with 131.9 points and leading the other Calabrian provinces (Reggio Calabria 93rd at 116.4; Cosenza 97th at 103.6; Vibo Valentia 103rd at 82.0; Crotone 105th at 80.0).

The Municipal Administration will continue with determination, working in close synergy with CONI, the Magna Graecia University, the school world and the many sports clubs in the area, so that training skills constantly support the growth of Catanzaro sport.
