A drone coming from Romania caused an explosion near a gas pipeline in the territory of neighboring Bulgaria.
The Bulgarian Prime Minister, Rumen Radev, reported it, without providing any indication at the moment as to who owned the drone can belong.
The explosion occurred not far from a section of the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline that connects Turkey to Ukraine and Bulgaria, the head of the Sofia government said in a video released on his social media profiles. “The drone exploded in the immediate vicinity of the Kardam border crossing with Romania” near the Black Sea, added the Bulgarian prime minister. Bulgarian army, police and border guard specialists “are working to determine the type of drone” which exploded near the border with Romania, near the Black Sea, not far from a compressor station of the Turkish-Ukrainian-Romanian-Bulgarian Trans-Balkan gas pipeline, said the Bulgarian prime minister after announcing the episode during an emergency meeting of the National Security Council convened ad hoc which already ended in Sofia, as reported by the local agency Bgnes.
“There were no victims, nor damage to the surrounding buildings”, confirmed Radev, underlining that the explosion occurred very close to the border: just 100 meters within Bulgarian territory. The Prime Minister stated that “the sound of the drone was detected by the Romanian border police”, immediately before the explosion.
While, according to Radev, there were no advance warnings from the NATO monitoring structures. The area where the debris fell has meanwhile been cordoned off.
Bulgarian sources specified on the sidelines of the Sofia meeting that the episode will also be explored and discussed within NATO at the next meeting of the North Atlantic Council, like similar recent incidents reported by countries such as Romania or Poland: in some cases with suspicions openly directed towards Russia at war with Ukraine.
The conflict
Meanwhile, in the Brovary district of the Kiev region, three people, including a child, were killed and three others injured following an attack by a Russian drone. As reported by Ukrinform, the head of the Kiev regional state administration Timur Tkachenko announced this on Telegram. The media report two waves of Russian attacks with ballistic weapons on the capital: explosions were heard in the city. Explosions were also felt in Dnipro.
Ukraine “has practically no more intact thermal power plants” on its territory, after the escalation of attacks conducted with drones and ballistic missiles by Russia. This was stated today by President Volodymyr Zelensky, quoted by the British and international media on the sidelines of a visit to Serbia, one of the European countries closest to Moscow, and of a summit with his Serbian colleague Aleksandar Vucic. Zelensky then raised an alarm ahead of the next winter season in his country, especially if the war continues. Vladimir Putin, he later accused, “wants to make the lives of Ukrainians unbearable.”
New appeal and new recriminations from Zelensky towards the Western allies on the lack of further supplies of interceptor missiles that Kiev is demanding. Missiles, the lack of which he blamed among other things for the consequences of a latest Russian attack which, according to him, also cost the life of a 3-year-old child.
The Ukrainian president – quoted in Belgrade by Sky News UK on the sidelines of a visit to Serbia, one of the European countries closest to Moscow, and of a summit with his Serbian colleague Aleksandar Vucic – defined as “absolutely necessary” the arrival in his country of further “anti-ballistic” instruments and interceptor missiles such as Patriot, SAMP/T, NASAMS, Hawk or F-16: “All material that in Ukraine would help save human lives, instead of remaining unused in the arsenals (of the countries of origin) thousands of kilometers away from Russia’s attacks”.
“Europe, America and Ukraine have wanted to put an end to this Russian war for some time – he reiterated -. Only (Vladimir) Putin doesn’t want it and is desperately clinging to his ballistic missiles and drones to continue it”.
