Seventeen Italian municipalities and territorial bodies have expressed interest in applying for the title of “Italian Capital of Culture” for 2029, responding to the notice published by the Ministry of Culture. Five of these are Calabrian municipalities: Amantea, Corigliano-Rossano, Cutro, Marcellinara and Rosarno. The others are Bardolino (Verona), Bassano del Grappa (Vicenza), Campobasso, Cassino (Frosinone), the mountain community of Valle Camonica (Brescia), the Castelli Romani Consortium (Rome), Cremona, Irsina (Matera), Manduria (Taranto), Nova Siri (Matera), Tivoli (Rome) and the Unione Montana dei Monti Azzurri (Macerata).
The title of “Italian Capital of Culture” aims to enhance the cultural and creative heritage of Italian cities and to promote innovative public policies based on culture as a lever for growth, inclusion and attractiveness.
