Before Ferragosto, Catanzaro wants to add three or four more reinforcements to enrich Giorgio Gorgone’s staff in terms of characteristics, quality, in some cases even experience. It is, in practice, the week in which the team’s completion will go up a notch: for the Italian Cup it may not be 100%, but it will get a little closer.
Sporting director Ciro Polito is continuing to work on the centre-forward, the left winger and a couple of midfielders in a market full of obstacles that does not allow us to take anything for granted until the signature is there: this was the case for Pafundi, in recent days there have been some problems for the two elements that seemed more concrete, namely the striker Emanuele Pecorino of Juventus Next Gen and the winger Mehdi Dorval of Bari. Whether for the Algerian full-back it should be a question of 24-48 hours to welcome him to the Giallorossi, for the Catania striker the situation is different and the operation is now uphill, more so than it was until Saturday, perhaps due to a meeting with Spain. The consequence is that the chances of success are all to be verified and it is not certain that at a certain point Polito will not return with more determination to other profiles: the hunt for the first striker to take the place of Pittarello, destined for Pisa, is open to the most diverse scenarios, from Antonio Di Nardo of Pescaro to Alvin Okoro of Venezia down to a possible foreign lead.
In addition to Dorval, the second addition on whose path there should no longer be sudden curves is that of Wisdom Acquah, a midfielder born in 2007 produced by Torino Primavera: a Ghanaian born in Italy, he is a metronome who would be added to Petriccione, the only playmaker currently available to Gorgone. Clearly it won’t be the only arrival in the middle of the pitch, where the priority is the need for a couple of category midfielders who also guarantee physical strength, insertions and presence in the two phases such as Luca Valzania of Pescara and Jeanne Pierre Longonda. There are two of the names on Polito’s list: on the first there is also the approval of Gorgone, who coached him in Abruzzo, the second was one of the ideas of the Giallorossi transfer man, who however at the moment does not seem to have him at the top of his mind, just as he does not have another midfielder already explored such as Potenza’s Brazilian Lucas Felippe, who has ended up a bit in the background.
The obvious hole in midfield is compensated by a couple of equally evident “overbookings” in some roles, between wings and midfield. On the right, for example, he has the sheet of via Esteves, closed by Candela and Frosinini if we don’t want to count Garnica too, who could still go on loan to C to play continuously. On the left, in addition to Dorval waiting to disembark, the only real “fifth” is D’Alessandro, but Di Francesco and Alesi are adaptable – albeit with different characteristics. The latter two are also and above all attacking midfielders in a package in which we must consider Iemmello and Pafundi, the 2008 Reita (who doesn’t move) and Buso, perhaps the most expendable if he demands the certainty of having more space, without forgetting that Koffi was used by Gorgone in that role in the friendlies in training camp.
