It will be a mid-August holiday of reflection and “negotiations” for Federico Basile and Cateno De Luca. The mayor’s next moves, it seems almost superfluous to point out, go hand in hand with those of the leader of South Calls North, who declares he is “on holiday” but, as we know, he never goes on holiday. Every strategy of the party of the two mayors – that of Messina and that of Taormina – is devoted to the next electoral stages, although it is not yet known how far apart: political elections and regional elections. Last Saturday, De Luca announced the first names of the future candidates for the regional elections in the South calls North lists. Lists, symbols and aspiring deputies, even without a voting date: a “Cateno-style” move, which however, as always, does not reveal everything. It will not have escaped notice, in fact, that the list presented does not have all the boxes of available places filled. Positions left strategically free, despite the fact that discussions have already been well underway, with an eye that aims above all at the province.
One is under the light of the sun, it concerns the “Together for the territory” movement, presented in Terme Vigliatore by the doctor Filippo Iannelli (it includes, among others, the former Messina city councilors Nicola Barbalace and Giorgio Caprì and the latter’s son, the current president of the seventh district Ninni, elected precisely at South Calls North altitude). Iannelli who has never made a secret of his intention to run for the Regionals, which is why the absence of his name in that list seemed strange.
Another well-established dialogue, with movements going on under the radar, leads to a name that is in some ways sensational: the regional deputy and current provincial coordinator of Forza Italia Bernadette Grasso, who has personally taken on the difficult (and perhaps impossible, given the electoral system) challenge of the very recent metropolitan elections, without hiding, then, the disappointment at the result obtained by a list presented without the Forza Italia symbol and – these are her bitter words – without the contribution of “those who preferred to stay out and watched elsewhere”, without putting his face on it. Nothing official, but a solid indiscretion, which would significantly change the electoral and political balance in the province of Messina, starting from the Nebroid area.
