A false attempt at reconciliation with a gun in his pocket. It happened in Mongrassano, in the Cosentino area, where a thirty-year-old fired several shots at his ex-partner of the same age, wounding her, and then attempted to take his own life with the same weapon.
Both protagonists of the story are hospitalized in the Annunziata hospital in Cosenza, where they underwent surgery, and their conditions do not cause particular concern. The attempted femicide occurred at dawn. The Carabinieri intervened on site and started investigations to reconstruct the previous hours, trying to identify the reason for the dispute that had occurred shortly before. The couple ran a business in Mongrassano but, over the years, they had decided to move first to a neighboring town in the Cosenza area and then to Germany.
As the years passed, however, the relationship would come to an end and lead to a separation, with the woman returning to Calabria. In recent days the thirty-year-old returned to Mongrassano to spend a holiday period.
According to what has been learned, there were contacts between the two in an attempt to re-establish the relationship. The two then met and started talking to the thirty-year-old who insisted on reconciling. Suddenly, however, the discussion would become increasingly lively. Then the man grabbed the gun and shot at his ex-partner. He subsequently turned the gun on himself and attempted to take his own life by shooting himself in the head. The 118 health workers and the police intervened on site.
The two injured were urgently transported to Cosenza hospital, where they underwent delicate surgical operations. The conditions of both are delicate but, according to what has been learned, they are not in danger of life.
The Carabinieri, coordinated by the Cosenza Public Prosecutor’s Office, while waiting to hear the version of the woman and her ex, collected a series of testimonies from some family members and acquaintances. Also under the attention of the investigators are cell phones to reconstruct the relationship between the two and the hours preceding the attempted femicide. Investigations are also being carried out on the gun used by the thirty-year-old.
