An espresso at a bar costs almost a quarter more in Italy today than it did five years ago. This was stated by the Center for Training and Research on Consumption which, in collaboration with Assoutenti, carried out a new study on cup prices by analyzing the new price increases that affected coffee during 2026.

And the increases do not stop: Colombian coffee exports are suffering a serious logistical interruption due to the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that hit the country. A new risk.

Bolzano is the most expensive, Messina is the cheapest in Italy

Based on the official Mimit data collected in the various Italian provinces, it emerges that espresso costs on average 1.29 euros in our country, 25 cents more than in 2021, with an average increase of +24.2% but with a very diversified trend depending on the areas of Italy, analyzes the Crc Bolzano confirms itself as the city with the highest price, equal to 1.51 euros per cup. On the opposite side of the ranking, Messina is now the cheapest city, with an average price of 1.06 euros.

«Energy and management costs weigh»

«At the basis of the increases recorded at bars there are other factors, such as the increase in energy and management costs for the operators, which are then passed on to the final prices to the consumer», warns the president of the scientific committee of the CRC, Furio Truzzi.
