No respite. There is also a battle on the eve of mid-August between the president of the city council Marco Ambrogio and the mayor Antonio Barile. The fuse? Ambrogio had summoned the group leaders for Friday the 14th at 4pm to plan the third session of the new Assize for next Wednesday. In truth, the news had already leaked but some doubts persisted about any emergencies. At 1.30pm on the eve of Ferragosto, Barile published a polemical post with Ambrogio, «who does not respect the statute because he does not invite the mayor and, of this failure, he announced that he had informed the Prefecture. It is obvious that the center-left group leaders who support me will not go to the meeting, nor will the councillors, the executive and myself in the possible session on the 19th.” Barile says he is disconcerted by the time and day “…on the eve of August 15th, when we are still here at 2pm to find solutions to a myriad of problems”.
Ambrogio did not stop and at 4pm (14 August) in front of the Municipality and among the councilors Foglia, Lepera, Martino, Bitonti, Loria, and G. Fragale, he replied: «We had come for the group leaders’ meeting and inexplicably found the doors closed. The mayor prevented us from entering. We should have discussed the mayor’s programmatic lines; Article 11 of the Statute requires that they take place within 30 days, more than 60 have passed and still all is silent. This is not just a delay, it is a lack of respect towards the institutions and citizens.. And while the Administration runs away.. let’s hope for better times.”
