France, at least for the moment, does not intend to join the countries that have decided to send migrants back to Italy according to the new rules. This, according to informed sources in Paris, is the political line chosen by the French government.

Furthermore, no announcement similar to those coming from Finland and Sweden would be expected from the French side, at least until the current phase of collaboration and rapprochement with Rome continues.

The dialogue between Paris and Rome

At the basis of the French position is the relationship with Italy and, in particular, the sharing of the objective of reducing migratory flows departing from Tunisia and Libya.

According to the sources, therefore, Paris will maintain this approach “as long as a phase of collaboration and rapprochement with Italy remains”, avoiding for now following the path taken by other European countries.
