«It seems entirely plausible to maintain that the death» of Ornella Forastefano «was caused by an action characterized by unprecedented and disproportionate violence, by certain obstinacy and by an overabundance of harmful gestures to her detriment». The investigating judge of the Court of Bari wrote this in the order with which he validated the arrest and ordered the precautionary custody in prison of Elvis Bisho – real name of Elvis Metvelaj, which is only an alias – for femicide aggravated by the relationship he had with Ornella Forastefano, the 46-year-old left dying, or perhaps already dead, in front of the Trebisacce hospital at three o’clock last Sunday. The man defended himself by claiming that his partner had fallen down the stairs.
Obsessive jealousy and the attack on the medical guard
In her ruling, the judge reconstructs what was ascertained by the carabinieri from the first hours. The two spent the August holiday together with some friends who, he writes, made explicit reference “to a couple’s relationship characterized by an obsessive feeling of jealousy nurtured by the man towards his partner which made its management stormy and conflictual”. As proof, the investigating judge cites the episode which saw Bisho «brutally attack, in the presence of his partner (who was trying in vain to contain him) the medical guard of Amendolara a few minutes before the tragic event, for the need to know if it was ‘he who was yesterday’, a circumstance which evidently reflects the obsessive and jealous behavior of the man, who, in all likelihood, was trying to identify who his ‘rival in love'”.
«Prevarication, control and possession»
The elements, therefore, allow the investigating judge to “believe that the murderous action was carried out as an expression of abuse, control and possession of the offended person as a woman” and that therefore the crime of femicide is contestable.
The hypothesis on the location of the attack
Regarding where the attack occurred, the judge, based on the elements collected by the police, believes that it may have occurred in a forest or in the countryside due to the presence of dirt and dry foliage in the hair. And it could have happened hours before Bisho abandoned the body in front of the hospital. A security camera, in fact, filmed the couple going towards a friend’s house and from the images it emerges that Ornella “was already in a situation of evident mobility difficulty, proving the fact that the attack had already taken place”.
The autopsy: extensive trauma and numerous injuries
Extensive trauma and numerous injuries were found on the body of the 46-year-old, who was left dying in front of the Trebisacce hospital (Cosenza) at 3 in the morning and then died. Traumas and wounds inflicted and which are the cause of death. This would be the result of the autopsy performed yesterday. Laboratory tests were also carried out on the body, the results of which will be announced in a few days. The examination was entrusted to the forensic medicine team of the Dulbecco University Hospital in Catanzaro, led by Professor Isabella Aquila. In particular, radiological examinations were performed to investigate the extent of the lesions.
The arrest at the port of Bari, the documents in Castrovillari
The man was stopped on Sunday morning by the Border Police, following input from the military, in the port of Bari while he was trying to return to his country. The arrest was carried out by the Carabinieri of the Cassano allo Ionio Company together with the investigative unit of the Cosenza Operations Department.
