The four custodians on duty at the MuMe of Messina were regularly in their places inside the museum while the thieves, on August 15th, stole six paintings by the painter Antonello da Messina, abandoning two during the escape, which were later found by the police following a report from a teacher who notified 112. This is what Ansa has learned.
The images from the video surveillance system would confirm the regular presence of the staff in the workplace and would therefore deny the rumours, circulated in the days following the tens of millions of euro coup, according to which at least one of the custodians had left to take part in the Vara procession in Piazza Duomo. It was also confirmed that the alarm system was triggered during the intrusion of the thieves and that it was deactivated by one of the custodians considering it a false contact as reported to the detectives who are investigating.
