It is, or should be, the emblem of the new course of Calabrian healthcare. What, to be clear, is expected to materialize after the longed-for exit from the commissionerate, but rather the plan to reduce the deficits in the healthcare sector which gave rise to over 15 years of horizontal cuts to departments and services will remain in force. Its importance can already be understood from the name: Company for the Government of Health of the Calabria Region, better known as Company Zero. It is the body that should finally bring order, absorbing various functions of the provincial health authorities, in the now mythological accounting chaos of Calabrian healthcare. Established by regional law of December 2021, five years later, however, the new healthcare moloch is not yet fully structured.
The implementation program of the functions attributed to Company Zero and the start-up phases of operational activities were decreed by governor Roberto Occhiuto (at the time in his capacity as commissioner ad acta) in May 2022.
