The sanctuary of San Francesco di Paola is packed and a city close around the Buccico family. This morning Matera said its final farewell to Angela Buccico, the 55-year-old lawyer who died in the plane crash that occurred on 16 August in Calabria. Among those present were the Lucanian governor, Vito Bardi, the regional councilors Cosimo Latronico and Francesco Cupparo, the mayor of Matera, Antonio Nicoletti, and representatives of the municipal administration.
Bardi defined what happened as “a great tragedy” and once again expressed his and the Region’s closeness to the Buccico family. Angela Buccico was the daughter of the former mayor of Matera and senator Nicola Buccico and sister of the current deputy mayor Rocco. On board the ultralight with her was the pilot Carlo Arnulfo, a 64-year-old Roman lawyer. According to the autopsy results, the two died instantly on impact. The bodies and remains of the aircraft were found in the Fuscaldo area, in the province of Cosenza.
