Mediterranean Games, Abati from Vibo is bronze: his is the Italian record

Simone Abati from Vibo wins the bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games in the snatch of the 110 kg category. The third test was decisive, in which the twenty-year-old Italian lifted 175 kg, a measurement that also allowed him to set the new Italian junior record.

In the sprint Abati instead finished the race in fifth place with 190 kg, a measurement raised in the first test.

Eleven medals for the Italian weightlifting team

The one won by the weightlifter from Vibo was the eleventh and final medal of the Italian weightlifting expedition. The overall haul of the Azzurri is four gold, two silver and five bronze.

In the previous race in the 95 kg category Lorenzo Tarquini was the protagonist, fifth in both specialties and author of the new Italian record in the snatch with 162 kg.

The last day of competitions at the San Giorgio Jonico arena was characterized by the presence of some prestigious guests, including the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi.

«The medals are the result of work and collaboration, which combines with talent and passion, and also with suffering, because weightlifting is a discipline in which there is a profound intimate physical component. Very happy that in these Mediterranean Games Olympic weightlifting has made an important contribution to the medal record”, declared Abodi.
