Reggio Calabria, iron fist of the police: 70 measures between ‘Ndrangheta, stalkers and violent ultras

A summer characterized by widespread control and zero tolerance for any form of illegality. In the two-month period July-August, the Reggio Calabria Police Headquarters significantly accelerated prevention activities in the provincial territory, issuing and proposing a total of seventy personal measures against individuals deemed socially dangerous.

The detailed offensive by the state police, coordinated by the specialists of the Anti-Crime Police Division together with the detached police stations and other law enforcement agencies, resulted in a targeted action to guarantee safety both in the tourist locations and in the capital.

The balance of the measures signed by the Police Commissioner traces the map of the interventions:

Daspo (10): Seven one-year sporting Daspos for disturbances during events in the province. Three “out of context” Daspos lasting 5 years, with an obligation to sign, affected as many fans who stood out for their social danger even outside of sporting events.

Warnings (24): Clamp down on violent conduct in relational contexts, with 10 provisions for persecutory acts (stalking) and 14 for episodes of domestic violence, aimed at nipping dysfunctional escalations in the bud.

Oral warnings (16): Formal orders to maintain conduct compliant with the law addressed to individuals with criminal records, in two cases accompanied by further stringent requirements.

Mandatory expulsion orders (8): Expulsion measures (with a ban on re-entry from 6 months to 4 years) against criminals residing in other provinces and caught committing crimes against the person and property in Reggio Calabria.

In terms of the crimes of greatest social concern and the fight against organized crime, the Police Headquarters has also forwarded to the Court – Prevention Measures Section nine proposals for the application of Special Public Security Surveillance (with obligation or ban on residence): six concern subjects suspected of belonging to the ‘ndrangheta or mafia circuits, while the remainder are linked to serious crimes against vulnerable victims.

In the same period, three already definitive Special Surveillance decrees (from 2 to 3 years) were notified and executed against individuals active in common and organized crime and responsible for family violence, confirming the effectiveness of the investigative and investigative work carried out by the Public Security offices.
