Yesterday, the carabinieri of the Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto Company carried out a precautionary custody order in prison – issued by the investigating judge of the Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto Court, at the request of the local Public Prosecutor’s Office – against an 18-year-old from Barcelona, already known to the police, considered seriously suspected of a series of home burglaries.
The disputed incidents were committed in Mazzarrà Sant’Andrea and date back to the period between April and August last year, when the young man – in collaboration with a currently unknown accomplice – entered several homes, some of which were used as summer residences, from which he removed cash, electronic devices and numerous gold jewelery of great economic value. The precautionary measure arose from an investigation coordinated by the Barcelona Prosecutor’s Office, directed by Dr. Giuseppe Verzera and conducted by the carabinieri of the Furnari station, during which a meticulous analysis of the images of the video surveillance systems of the areas concerned was carried out, which was then followed by a series of checks at a “gold buying” shop where the suspect had paid part of the stolen goods to obtain money in exchange. In this context, considering the seriousness of the disputed episodes and the criminal unscrupulousness of the suspect, as well as the concrete risk that he could repeat the crime and become untraceable, the investigating judge therefore deemed it necessary to adopt a personal precautionary measure against the suspect, now confined at the Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto prison.
