There will be over three hundred delegates from all over the Archdiocese of Catanzaro-Squillace who will meet at the Mirabeau Park Hotel in Gasperina on Saturday 12 September for the diocesan Assembly convened by the Metropolitan Archbishop, HE Monsignor Claudio Maniago.
From 9.30 to 17.00 priests, deacons, religious, catechists, pastoral workers and lay people from the various communities will be involved in a day of listening, discussion and discernment dedicated to the theme “The renewal of Christian initiation itineraries in the horizon of the synodal path”.
The appointment marks an important stage in the path started by the diocesan Church on Christian initiation, identified as one of the pastoral priorities that emerged from the synodal path and from the discussion with the participation bodies. After the work carried out in the fora, the Assembly now opens the phase of discernment, called to gather what has been gained in the communities and to identify shared perspectives for the future.
A community called to generate faith
The works will open with a welcome and prayer. Don Ivan Rauti will propose a reflection on the meaning of the synodal path, while Don Ferdinando Fodaro will focus on the Christian community as a generative place of faith.
The basic report of the Assembly will be entrusted to Don Francesco Vanotti, priest of the diocese of Como and director of the Office for Catechesis. «What vision of initiation into the Christian life?» is the question posed at the center of his speech, which will offer the pastoral and catechetical coordinates for the subsequent work of the delegates.
The reflection will not only concern methods, times and tools of catechesis. At the center there will be a deeper question: how Christian communities can today return to being places capable of generating faith, accompanying children, young people, young people and families towards a living encounter with Christ and an increasingly conscious participation in ecclesial life.
In the afternoon the Assembly will enter its more properly participatory phase with synodal work tables and workshops. The over three hundred delegates will be called to discuss, share experiences and bring out indications and perspectives for the renewal of Christian initiation itineraries.
It will be a concrete exercise of synodality, in which mutual listening and community discernment will allow different sensitivities and experiences to be put into dialogue. The objective is to move from reflection to pastoral choices, developing a project that is not simply handed over to the communities, but arises from their involvement and the journey undertaken together.
The conclusions will be entrusted to Archbishop Monsignor Claudio Maniago, who will collect what emerged from the day and indicate the prospects for the subsequent stages of the diocesan journey.
The Pro Avvenire Day
Accompanying the Assembly will also be the Pro Avvenire Day, promoted and organized by the Diocesan Office for Social Communications. An initiative that aims to draw attention to the value of information capable of reading reality responsibly, offering a space for discussion on major ecclesial, social and cultural themes.
On the occasion of the Day, on Saturday 12 September the newspaper Avvenire will host a special page dedicated to the Archdiocese of Catanzaro-Squillace, with insights into the life of the local Church, the pastoral paths in progress and the experiences that illustrate its presence in the territory.
The expected participation of over three hundred delegates from the entire diocese thus conveys the image of a Church that chooses to question itself together on the transmission of the faith and the future of its communities, making the Assembly not a simple organizational appointment, but a concrete passage of communion, discernment and mission.
