The soldiers of the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Catanzaro have executed a provision for the definitive confiscation of assets, worth over 162 million euros, issued by the Court of Catanzaro. The asset prevention measure, which has now become definitive, was adopted against 3 well-known entrepreneurs from Catanzaro, who had been involved in the “Coccodrillo” investigation developed by the Catanzaro Economic-Financial Police Unit under the coordination of the Dda, which had documented the links with the ‘ndrangheta families of the Mazzagatti of Oppido Mamertina, Arena of Isola Capo Rizzuto and Grande Aracri of Cutro, which over time had allowed the companies of the aforementioned entrepreneurs to assume a position of absolute importance in the supply of concrete and in the assumption of important orders in the public and private construction sector and, at the same time, to be excluded from extortion claims of mafia origin.
It is no coincidence that previous investigative activities aimed at unmasking attempts at mafia infiltration on the modernization works of the Pizzo Calabro – Cosenza section of the A3 Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway (Mediterranean motorway) accounted for the holding of an inter-provincial ‘Ndrangheta summit at the construction site of the entrepreneurs in question. The latter, following the “Coccodrillo” proceeding, were found responsible, in various capacities, for external complicity in mafia association, self-laundering, fraudulent transfer of values, extortion and definitively sentenced to sentences ranging from 8 years and 10 months to 3 years of imprisonment. Hence their classification in one of the categories of subjects carrying social danger.
The resulting investigations of an economic-patrimonial nature, conducted by the investigators of the Gico of the Economic-Financial Police Unit of the Guardia di Finanza of Catanzaro, have made it possible to discover, in addition to a huge patrimony registered in the name of the proposed candidates and their family members, the substantial availability of a range of companies and consortia, often shielded by “front men” figures, whose value was found to be far disproportionate compared to the declared incomes.
