Cinema arrives in Cosenza and, outside the set, it becomes an opportunity to meet. Selfies, availability and a warm welcome accompany these days the presence of the actors of “Gatekeepers”, the film by Eros Puglielli which brings Lillo, Frank Matano, Paolo Calabresi, Asia Argento, Massimo De Lorenzo and Salvatore Costa to the city. Their passage has not gone unnoticed: the people of Cosenza recognize them, ask for a photo and find well-known faces ready to indulge, at ease in everyday city life.
Among those who took the opportunity for a selfie were the restaurateur Roberto Vallo, the owner of the art shop Fiorino Fiorentino and the “VIP catcher” Gianfrancesco Vita. Meetings that tell the story of the less institutional side of a film production: that of a city that welcomes actors and a group of artists who are enjoying themselves in Cosenza, coming into contact with local people and activities.
Three weeks of filming between Cosenza, Castrolibero and Malvito
“Gatekeepers” is supported by the Calabria Film Commission. Filming will last three weeks, within a total period of 45 days of preparation, filming and post-production. The set will also touch Castrolibero and Malvito.
«Calabria is preparing for an autumn as a protagonist – declares Anton Giulio Grande, president of the Calabrian cinema foundation – throughout the regional territory, where films, fiction, documentaries and shorts will follow one another, to confirm its vocation as a cinema territory». In Cosenza, he adds, «Gatekeepers is shot in the city center with the means of production, the cameras and many faces loved by the public».
The film is produced by Be Water Film, Solaria Film and Vision Distribution, in collaboration with Sky and with the contribution of the Calabria Film Commission. It will be distributed theatrically by Vision Distribution. The screenplay is signed by Eros Puglielli, Giulia Gianni and Matteo Menduni; the photography is by Andrea Arnone, the scenography by Alessandro Bigini, the costumes by Monica Celeste, the editing by Angelo Santini and the original music by Francesco Cerasi.
Caruso: «An opportunity for the city and Calabrian professionals»
The curiosity of citizens is accompanied by expectations for the effects of production on the territory. «The city once again becomes a film set to open up to a new and significant production with its extraordinary urban heritage, its squares, its views, in a word, with its cultural deposits», comments mayor Franz Caruso.
For the mayor, the work of the Calabria Film Commission offers Cosenza “a new opportunity for territorial promotion”, confirming a vocation consolidated over time. Caruso also underlines the opportunity for the Calabrian professionals involved in the production and for the local supply chain, indicating cinema as a possible generator of economic activities for the capital and the entire urban area.
«Cosenza – concludes the mayor – once again, does not only present itself as the backdrop to a story, but, through renewed visibility, creates the conditions to establish itself as an increasingly attractive place for a film industry that recognizes and enhances its enormous potential».
