A fault in the electricity line in the railway section between Nocera Terinese and Lamezia Terme is causing heavy disruption to the movement of trains in Calabria.
The problem is causing delays and slowdowns, with various repercussions on connections along the line. Among the passengers (university students and workers) most penalized are those left stuck at Paola station, where there are waiting times and inconveniences.
Traffic reactivated at 6.20pm
The movement of trains along the Calabrian Tyrrhenian line was reactivated at 6.20pm this evening, having been interrupted since midday today, when a pole supporting the high voltage cables gave way and collapsed on the tracks in the stretch between the stations of Nocera Terinese and Lamezia Terme, near Falerna. Trenitalia communicates this, specifying that traffic is gradually resuming and that the queue of trains that were stuck for hours along the route is being cleared. The adverse weather conditions of recent days caused the pole to fail, with the electricity cables ending up along the railway line. RFI technicians have worked continuously to restore the electricity line, in the meantime a replacement bus service has been activated between the stations of Paola and Lamezia Terme.
The refund
Trenitalia will fully refund the ticket to travelers on Frecciarossa and Intercity trains who have accumulated significant delays following the interruption of traffic between Lamezia Terme and Nocera Terinese caused by the fall of an electricity pole, knocked down by bad weather. The company makes this known. The fault occurred around 12pm today.
