The body in an advanced state of decomposition of Maria Santandrea, a 78-year-old woman who disappeared from Frascineto, in the province of Cosenza, on 27 August, was found this evening in the Marzano district, in the municipality of Morano Calabro.
The searches carried out immediately after the family members were reported missing had yielded no results. Some motorcyclists who were hiking found the woman’s personal effects, including her identification document, and raised the alarm. Police officers intervened on site and, climbing higher, found human remains. The police, firefighters and the magistrate on duty also intervened on site. The autopsy will have to provide an answer on the causes of death.
The woman, known in the area as a great walker, had gone to Castrovillari to do the shopping and had since lost track of her. The last reported sighting occurred in the Conca del Re area, near the Castrovillari prison.
