Stop the activity of the blood sampling point in San Fratello starting tomorrow. An extreme decision due to the exhaustion of the budget assigned by the ASP which comes, according to what Dr. Giuseppe Bongiorno, owner of the affiliated clinical analysis laboratory reports, at the culmination of a very long back and forth with the ASP for the recognition of an extra budget to cover the services provided.
In fact, the laboratory carries out the service between San Fratello and Torrenova, where it moved its headquarters in 2019, for a total reference user of approximately 8000 patients. The move was authorized by the ASP on the condition of maintaining coverage also in the mountain center as a disadvantaged area, and the owner therefore ensured the activity of the sampling point in the old San Fratello laboratory for the benefit of a user composed mainly of elderly and fragile subjects, often unable to travel, with most of the sampling carried out at home.
«The structure has already advanced over 110,000 euros of unreimbursed costs incurred in recent years to guarantee the service to citizens, despite a monthly budget that runs out within the first week – continues Dr. Good morning -. This situation, reported several times, is now clinically and financially unsustainable. Despite the mayor’s communications and the reports from general practitioners, which highlighted the risk of interrupting essential levels of care, the ASP has not adopted any corrective measures nor provided operational responses”.
