The issue of the new hospital in Catanzaro splits city politics. And it relaunches the discussion on the possible unity of the center-right with a view to next year’s local elections in the regional capital. In recent days, the vice-president of the Region and representative of the League in Calabria, Filippo Mancuso, launched, during a public meeting, his idea on the location of the new city hospital: he bluntly rejected the idea of keeping it in the current “Pugliese-Ciaccio” area, he defined it as “madness”, and promoted with flying colors the construction in the Germaneto district, where the polyclinic is located. The delegated commissioner for healthcare construction in Calabria, Claudio Moroni, will ultimately decide on the issue, and is awaiting the outcome of the study commissioned by the Polytechnic of Milan on the costs and benefits of the various hypotheses on the table. At stake are 500 million euros for the new hub of the “Dulbecco” university hospital.
But the vision launched by Mancuso dissatisfied part of the centre-right itself, which in the city council was almost entirely in favor of the “Pugliese” hypothesis. This distance was revealed by the city councilors Sergio Costanzo (Forza Italia) and Antonio Corsi (Mixed Group), for whom «Mancuso preaches unity, but practices division. It has in fact achieved two effects: the division in the centre-right on a crucial issue such as the new hospital and the division between the central-northern and southern areas of the city. Not bad for aiming to represent everyone.”
