The investigation into the “Lucignolo” diploma factory active in Reggino: final sentence for a man from Agrigento

The sentence of one year, five months and ten days of imprisonment for Enzo Riggi, from Agrigento, becomes definitive as part of the «Lucignolo» investigation into the so-called diploma factory active in Calabria. The Court of Cassation declared the appeal of the accused, convicted for participation in the criminal conspiracy, inadmissible. The investigation started from the complaints of some students who had discovered that the certificates obtained had no legal value. According to the judicial reconstruction, the Morfè training center would have advertised ministerial accreditations and agreements with non-existent public bodies, also organizing exams with commissions without legitimacy. The Court of Appeal of Reggio Calabria had identified Riggi, at the time representing a private institute in the Agrigento area, as an intermediary responsible for finding students in Sicily. The accused had claimed that he had also been deceived and that he did not know about the centre’s illicit activities. The Court of Cassation considered that this thesis had already been evaluated and rejected by the judges of merit on the basis of the elements acquired during the investigations.
