The serious and prolonged crisis that is affecting the collection, management and disposal chain of plastic and multi-material packaging in much of the province of Cosenza goes beyond the confines of a merely technical or corporate problem and lands on the tables of the Prefecture.
With a formal and joint note, registered from the Municipality of Corigliano-Rossano and addressed to the prefect of Cosenza, Rosa Maria Padovano, nine mayors of the area launched a real institutional alarm, asking for the immediate convening of an urgent consultation table.
Also called to sit down for a discussion were the Region, the Calabria Waste and Water Resources Authority (Arrical), the Corepla consortium and the main trade representatives in the sector.
The first citizens who signed the letter of formal notice were Flavio Stasi (Corigliano-Rossano), Franco Mundo (Trebisacce), Pino Capalbo (Acri), Irma Bucarelli (Mendicino), Maria Teresa Aiello (Crosia), Vincenzo Cascini (Belvedere Marittimo), Antonino De Lorenzo (Praia a Mare), Manuela Labonia (Pietrapaola) and Cataldo Iozzi (Mandatoriccio). A compact and heterogeneous front representing tens of thousands of residents between the Ionian belt, the Tyrrhenian coast and the Sila hinterland, united by the same problem: the objective impossibility of guaranteeing regular continuity in multi-material collection services from private homes and commercial users due to the blockages and slowdowns that occur in the delivery plants downstream of the collection.
The mayors warn against the inevitable hygienic-sanitary, environmental and economic repercussions that the territories are facing.
