Among those arrested who ended up under house arrest as part of the operation of the anti-mafia prosecutor’s office of Reggio Calabria carried out this morning there is also Gabriele Bruzzese, councilor for public works of the Municipality of Melicucco of the council led by the mayor Francesco Nicolaci. The chief prosecutor of Reggio Calabria Giuseppe Borrelli dwelt at length on Bruzzese’s position in the press conference, linking it to an alleged extortion request, in collaboration with a member of the Costa gang. The case concerns the resurfacing works of a provincial road during the passage of the Giro d’Italia. According to the reconstruction of the carabinieri, the clan member would have ordered the renovation work to be extended to the road section not included in the contracted project to reach his home. And to be able to obtain what was requested he would have enjoyed the support of Bruzzese himself. In total there are 21 people involved in the Reggio anti-mafia investigation carried out this morning by the Carabinieri of the provincial command, against the Costa-Filippone gang of Melicucco. The judge for preliminary investigations ordered seven of them to be arrested in prison
