The Municipal Council has approved the draft Memorandum of Understanding between the Municipality of Crotone and Calabria Verde aimed at carrying out maintenance interventions to mitigate hydraulic risk in the municipal territory.
The measure, proposed by Mayor Voce, was born from the joint inspection activity carried out by the technical staff of the Municipality and Calabria Verde, during which the sections of the waterways that require maintenance were identified.
In particular, the Protocol provides for interventions along the Esaro River, for an estimated stretch of approximately 3.5 kilometres, and a specific intervention at the mouth of the Passovecchio Torrent.
The activities will include the mowing and shredding of weeds, shrubs and, where necessary, trees, as well as maintenance interventions on the riverbed and banks aimed at encouraging the improvement of water flow.
The agreement arises from the desire of the municipal administration to intervene promptly to protect the safety of citizens and is part of the activities of Calabria Verde aimed at mitigating hydrogeological instability and maintaining the territory.
The protocol confirms the concrete collaboration established with Calabria Verde to intervene on the waterways that cross the city territory. The maintenance of riverbeds and banks represents an important activity to improve water flow and contribute to the prevention and mitigation of hydraulic risk. The objective is to intervene promptly and continuously, through institutional collaboration that allows the use of skills, means and resources in a coordinated manner.
The Protocol establishes that Calabria Verde will carry out the cleaning activities of the identified sections, using its own mechanical means and making available, compatibly with the organizational needs of the Company, the forestry manpower necessary to support the activities.
The Municipality of Crotone, for its part, will take care of the project obligations and the acquisition of the necessary authorizations, also guaranteeing collaboration in the various phases of the intervention and the costs relating to fuel and consumption necessary for the execution of the works. The Municipality’s intervention will be financed with resources deriving from the agreement with Eni, intended to support maintenance and protection activities of the territory.
The municipal administration thus continues with the maintenance and protection of the territory, strengthening collaboration with the competent regional bodies and focusing attention on interventions for the prevention and mitigation of hydraulic criticalities.
