The climate in Catanzaro is already election campaign-style. With the mayor Nicola Fiorita who does not tell his opponents, especially the great ex, Sergio Abramo, who has returned to the protagonist of the political debate in recent times. Fiorita, in his usual “Sunday thoughts” published on his Facebook page, states that the confrontation with his predecessor could take place when the electoral campaign is officially open and perhaps in one of those places that tell of the problems left to the city: from the ruins of the Mazzini school to the purification plant, from the old Sala station to the stadium building, up to the waiting room of the Revenue Agency. «In recent years – claims Fiorita – I have always tried to fill the role to which I was called by popular will with the utmost dignity and balance. The sense of institutions has pushed me to avoid unnecessary controversies and squabbles, especially towards those who preceded me, to whom I bring and will always give the respect due to those who have been mayor of Catanzaro. This time too, therefore, I will ignore the provocations of the former mayor Abramo to which I will simply reply that if he really wants to confront me perhaps I will be able to do so in a few months during the electoral campaign”.
The reply to Abramo is a strenuous defense of the activity carried out in recent years by the Administration: «Can anyone who speaks of not (yet) finished tell me how many public works were carried out in the five years preceding the administration that I have the honor of leading? Are those who haven’t done anything for decades better or those who have done and are doing a lot, but sometimes it takes them a little longer than expected?”.
The mayor demands a change of pace in various areas: right to education, sports facilities, cycle paths, administrative transparency, active participation, purification and collection, port area, large and small events, relaunch of the Politeama, trade fair offer, respect for the rules and economic recovery. As for the criticisms, «those from citizens are absolutely legitimate. There is a healthy indignation of those who want to improve things and there is a fake indignation, especially on social media, which smacks of quackery.”
