Christa Pike, the woman who survived two lethal injections, has regained consciousness and is speaking. His lawyers made this known, calling this an “unprecedented” development.

Pike – the lawyers said – remains handcuffed and chained at the ankles despite having suffered serious injuries to her arms due to the pentobarbital drips that should have killed her.

Pike was hospitalized on the evening of September 30 after the flop execution in the death chamber of the maximum security Riverbend prison in Nashville. The woman, who is 50 years old, had been sentenced to death for the murder of a peer committed when she was 18 while her accomplice, who was 17, received a life prison sentence with the possibility of sentence reductions. The prognosis for Christa remains unclear at the moment: “At a minimum we should expect a long recovery time,” said lawyers Randy Spivey and Kelly Gleason. “We are incredibly grateful to the medical team at the hospital who provided exceptional care for Christa.”
