In the second quarter of 2026, the tax burden was 43.5%, an increase of 0.5 percentage points compared to the same period of the previous year. This was announced by Istat. The disposable income of consumer families increased by 0.4% compared to the previous quarter, while consumption grew by 1.7%. The propensity to save among consumer families was 6.7%, down 1.2 percentage points compared to the previous quarter. Against a 1.4% increase in the implicit consumption deflator, the purchasing power of families decreased by 0.9% compared to the previous quarter.
“The disposable income of families has increased less than that of final consumption expenditure, resulting in a contraction in the propensity to save”, explains Istat, highlighting how the purchasing power of families has also decreased. The profit share of non-financial companies, at 42.1%, decreased by 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous quarter. The investment rate of non-financial companies, at 26.4%, increased by 0.7 percentage points compared to the previous quarter. «For non-financial companies, the profit share recorded a decrease, in continuity with the dynamics observed in the previous quarter – explains the Institute of Statistics – The investment rate, however, increased, continuing the trend already highlighted in the first quarter of the year».
