The wave of bad weather has also reached the South. Spectacular lightning storm in the Strait of Messina and rain arriving between Sicily and Calabria.

Strong thunderstorms still expected, especially in the Centre-South. The deep Atlantic trough will tend to move towards the South-East and affect the central and southern regions, with more intense and frequent storm phenomena along the Tyrrhenian side and on the Apennine sectors. Based on the available forecasts, the Department of Civil Protection in agreement with the regions involved has issued a further warning of adverse weather conditions which extends the one issued on Wednesday. The warning predicts the persistence of scattered to widespread precipitation, with a predominantly downpour or thunderstorm character, over Campania, Lazio, especially southern sectors, Abruzzo and Molise, especially internal sectors. From the early hours of today, Friday 9 October, other scattered to widespread rainfall, mainly of a thunderstorm nature and locally also of strong intensity, over Basilicata, especially the Tyrrhenian and Ionian sectors, and over Calabria and Sicily. Phenomena accompanied by heavy showers, strong gusts of wind, local hailstorms and frequent electrical activity. On the basis of the expected and ongoing phenomena, an orange alert has been assessed for today, Friday 9 October, in sectors of Lazio and Campania. Yellow alert has also been assessed in sectors of Piedmont, Lombardy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lazio and Campania and in the entire territory of Tuscany, Marche, Umbria, Abruzzo, Molise, Basilicata, Puglia, Calabria and Sicily.
