Donald Trump decided to end the diesel deal with Russia after Volodymyr Zelesnky ignored repeated American requests to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries.
Axios reports it citing some sources. “Zelensky is misjudging the situation. By continuing to hit refineries, he is compromising” the trust and willingness gained by Trump in the last six months, an American official explained. The president wanted Ukraine to unilaterally stop attacks on refineries because they were driving up energy prices in the United States.
During eight hours of talks yesterday in Miami with Ukrainian negotiators, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner had warned them of the phone call between Trump and Putin and the removal of sanctions on Russian diesel because Kiev had ignored his requests. According to a Ukrainian source, Trump’s envoys have also threatened to strip Ukraine of the intelligence it needs to act if it continues to ignore the president’s requests.
The Americans, however, deny the reconstruction and highlight that Witkoff and Kushner only explained that the attacks were causing problems in the United States. Until the agreement with Russia, the negotiations in Miami had gone well. They had focused on security guarantees and new proposals for territorial solutions had been presented.
Also according to Axios, Witkoff and Kushner are considering going to Moscow and Kiev next week to talk about a peace proposal. The sources said it was unclear how tensions over the diesel deal with Russia might influence their decisions.
The tycoon attacks Norway over the Nobel Peace Prize
And meanwhile Trump returns to the issue of Navi Pillay’s Nobel Peace Prize, attacking Norway. “I have solved eight wars and a Nobel would be needed for each one. We will not forget Norway’s refusal to award the Nobel to the United States,” he said. “The United States, represented by me, should have received the Nobel but did not. This is an indelible stain on Norway. We will not forget, Norway,” he highlighted.
“The Nobel Peace Prize – said Trump – has been discredited forever by a handful of radical ideologues. They awarded the Nobel Prize to a person I had never heard of. I had never heard his name. No president has done what I have done”.
Trump had previously also returned to his relations with Meloni. “I have a great relationship with her. We get along well,” he said in response to those who asked him what his relationship was with the Italian prime minister. Asked if he plans to meet her at the G20, Trump said: “Probably.”
