In San Lucido the demonstration against high fuel prices brings together farmers, hauliers, fishermen and other workers. The request is for concrete answers against the high cost of living. “If concrete answers do not arrive, we will take the protest to Rome”, is the message that comes from the garrison.
The mobilization is part of the protests that are affecting Calabria. On the second day of the initiative proclaimed by Fedralog, the regional logistics federation, the trucks remained parked on the roadside even during the night in the 15 stations opened yesterday, distributed from north to south of the region, from the port of Gioia Tauro to the junctions of the A2 motorway and the main communication routes.
The confrontation in the Prefecture and the protest until Tuesday
This morning a Fedralog delegation met the prefect of Catanzaro. At the end of the discussion, the regional coordinator Mario Pansini reported that the prefect has undertaken to transmit the problems of the goods transport sector to the central government.
The Fedralog monitoring will continue until Tuesday, awaiting feedback. In the absence of responses, the organization also announced its intention to bring the protest to Rome. Pansini also reported an increase in participation, with families and businesses joining alongside hauliers.
The regional mobilization caused slowdowns and inconveniences to traffic, without real blockages. “We reiterate that the demonstration is peaceful and that there will be no blockades,” specified the Fedralog coordinator. On the Ionian side, meanwhile, in Corigliano Rossano students, citizens and farmers crossed the streets of the center with tractors at the head of the procession, while the farmers’ garrison remained on State Road 106, near the Santa Lucia roundabout.
Anpi present
Tomorrow morning, Sunday 18 October, the ANPI section of Paola will join the demonstration of hauliers and farmers underway since yesterday on the SS18 near the San Lucido sports field. «The fight against the high cost of fuel and the high cost of living is in everyone’s interest because it defends the dignity and freedom of each of us. It is therefore not only right but necessary to give strength to the protest and support the just demands of the demonstrators. This is why it is important to be there and be many”, they appeal.
