On Friday 23 October at 10.30 am the IRCCS Neurolesi Center “Bonino Pulejo” will inaugurate the new premises of the Microbiology Laboratory within the Clinical Pathology UOSD led by Dr. Daniela Belletti.
An intervention that significantly enhances the facility’s diagnostic offering and is part of a broader modernization process aimed at expanding the range of available tests, responding more promptly to clinical needs and contributing to optimal management of care pathways.
Among the main innovations, a first fundamental result is the reactivation and profound modernization of the Microbiology sector, after approximately 8 years of interruption of activity. In fact, we do not limit ourselves to restoring the service, but we equip it with the most advanced technologies of the so-called “fast microbiology”.
Thanks to systems based on mass spectrometry, such as MALDI-TOF, it will be possible to identify the microorganisms responsible for infections in a few minutes, combined with innovative molecular biology platforms with a syndromic approach, capable of rapidly detecting pathogens and resistance mechanisms directly from critical samples such as blood cultures, respiratory samples, cerebrospinal fluid, osteoarticular fluids and gastrointestinal samples.
A strategic activity for timely diagnosis, immediate support for targeted therapies and a formidable weapon in the fight against antimicrobial resistance.
Alongside Microbiology, the laboratory makes a decisive leap in quality thanks to the introduction of new high-tech platforms dedicated to the sector of autoimmunity and special infectious diseases, which allow the level of diagnostic response to be further raised.
A second, extraordinary result concerns the launch of specialized diagnostics in the field of Alzheimer’s disease through the measurement of key biomarkers in early diagnosis. An opportunity that represents a significant step forward on a scientific and healthcare level, contributing to the development of a medicine increasingly oriented towards early diagnosis and the personalization of treatment paths.
“We are not only inaugurating new premises, but we are giving back to citizens a service of fundamental importance, strengthening the diagnostic offer of our healthcare facility and introducing extraordinary opportunities for technological innovation and professional development – declares General Director Maurizio Lanza. This is a significant achievement, which represents a concrete investment in improving the quality of care and confirms our commitment to making healthcare services increasingly efficient, qualified and close to the needs of patients. Behind all this there is the daily and precious work of a team of professionals who, with competence, responsibility and dedication, guarantees the functioning of an essential service – continues Lanza. My most sincere recognition goes to all of them: it is thanks to the people that technological investments are transformed into concrete benefits for the community. Our objective is clear: to continue to offer increasingly qualified diagnostic services by providing the Piedmont hospital, also due to its centrality, with a greater offer of tests (e.g. Celiac Disease, Autoimmunity, Respiratory Viruses, Hepatitis B and C) for the benefit of citizens, strengthening its position. strategic”.
