An important emergency exercise took place today in Catanzaro inside the tunnel of the new city metro, aimed at verifying the effectiveness of the operating procedures and coordination between the entities involved in the management of a complex accident scenario.

The activity simulated the derailment of a rail vehicle, with the presence of injured people and a fire starting on board, reproducing a potentially critical scenario that requires timely intervention, coordination skills and specific technical skills.

The Fire Brigade of the Catanzaro Provincial Command participated in the exercise, coordinated by the Fire Inspector Massimo Conforti, the technical staff of Ferrovie della Calabria and the health workers of the 118 emergency service.

Today’s activity was preceded by a complex training course lasting four days, held at the provincial headquarters of the Catanzaro Fire Brigade, which involved the staff of the Fire Brigade and Calabria Railways.

During the meetings, the contents of the Emergency and Rescue Plan (PES), prepared for the management of emergency situations and shared at the Prefecture, were explored and shared. The training days made it possible to analyze the procedures envisaged by the plan and translate them into specific operating methods, subsequently verified through simulation in the field.
The police were also on site to attend the exercise.

The exercise represented an important opportunity to test the effective application of the procedures, verify the integration between the different components of the rescue system and consolidate the collaboration between the Fire Brigade, railway staff and health services.

Training, planning and joint training are confirmed as fundamental elements for guaranteeing the safety of citizens and ensuring a timely and effective response in the event of an emergency.
