Funeral on Saturday

The funeral will be celebrated in the Church of Santa Lucia, via Enrico Albanese 2, next Saturday at 10.

Ferro was honorary musical director for life of the Teatro Massimo. «Gabriele Ferro was music as thought, memory and vision – says the superintendent of the Palermo theater Marco Betta -. He belongs to that rare family of musicians for whom conducting an orchestra does not just mean interpreting a score, but going through the thought that generated it, rediscovering the mystery of its birth and bringing it back, every time, to life.

A great conductor and composer, he had the ability to inhabit music from within, to recognize, behind every sound, the invisible plot of intentions, emotions, architectures and silences that constitute the language of a composer. We lose a musician who has gone through the history of music with an inexhaustible curiosity for the mystery of artistic creation, with that ability, typical of the great masters, to transform knowledge into imagination and imagination into a new form of knowledge.” Ferro, concludes Betta, «has accompanied the Teatro Massimo through fundamental seasons of its artistic life, contributing to building that cultural depth and international vocation that today constitute a heritage of our institution».
