And now? Now that the Council of State has rejected the regional government’s appeal, the opposition has no doubts: «Let’s return to the Council as soon as possible to definitively cancel the changes to the Statute». After months of back and forth, the “game” on undersecretaries and the expansion of the regional council seems to have reached the final stages: despite the twists and turns, the majority itself seems aware of having no alternative to the necessary second reading vote on the provision which cancels the innovations that ended up at the center of the minority’s referendum campaign.
Doing the math, given that the first step of the revocation of the statutory revision was completed in the Chamber on 5 October, the sixty days scheduled for the second reading will start in just over a month. But nothing would prevent the majority from dragging it out anyway, maintaining the status quo. «Now no more postponements and ambiguities. The second session of the Regional Council should be convened immediately to definitively cancel this rule. Nobody thinks they can make fun of us or use the time to avoid commitments”, he has already warned the opposition.
