Additional 3.5 million euros for personal services and social housing in the internal areas of Calabria. The announcement comes from the regional councilor for Agriculture, Gianluca Gallo, who spoke in Serra San Bruno at the second stage of the roadshow “The path of internal areas: the experiences of SNAI in Calabria”, hosted in the headquarters of the Serre regional natural park. The priority indicated by the councilor is to guarantee quality spending, strengthening the comparison with the territories and enhancing experiences that can be replicated. «The new vision must put people at the centre, even before works and infrastructures. Important steps have been taken, but there is still a lot of work to be done”, he underlined.
Services and businesses for the future of small municipalities
According to Gallo, the programming has entered the operational phase and the first results may emerge especially in social and health services, transport and the strengthening of the school system. The objective is to build a network between administrators, communities and local realities that goes beyond just institutional relationships. The strategy also includes support for existing businesses and the creation of new businesses. A path which, in the intentions of the Region, must create economic and employment opportunities for young people, allowing them to choose to remain in their territories of origin. «With this roadshow we are telling, directly in the territories, the work carried out by the Agriculture Department», explained the councilor, recalling the continuity with previous programming and the availability of new resources for the communities.
The confrontation in the Serre Park
During the meeting, Anna Prenestini, director of Sector 9 of the Department of Agriculture, Internal Areas and Territorial Connection Policies, and Maria Teresa Morano, action manager of the Calabria Fesr Fse+ 2021-2027 regional programme, spoke. The mayor of Serra San Bruno Alfredo Barillari, the extraordinary commissioner of the Park Francesco Costantino and the director Francesco Maria Pititto participated. Also present were Guido Mignolli, director of Gal Terre Locridee, the majority municipal councilor Sabina Maiolo, Marziale Battaglia, president of Gal Serre Calabresi, and Emilio Pierpaolo Giordano, director of Gal Terre Vibonesi. Serra San Bruno is the leading municipality of the Serre Ionian Side Area, which extends between the provinces of Catanzaro, Reggio Calabria and Vibo Valentia.
The next stop in Scigliano
The roadshow includes seven initiatives dedicated to the same number of Calabrian internal areas, as part of Policy Objective 5, “A Calabria closer to citizens”, of the regional programme. The next appointment is set for November 11th in Scigliano, where the discussion on the experiences and opportunities of the National Strategy for Internal Areas will continue.
