The checks continue by the staff of the Environmental Police Operational Unit of the Crotone Port Authority which involved a car wash in the municipality of Cutro, an oil mill in Isola Capo Rizzuto and a marble factory in Crotone.

The objective continues to be environmental protection and, therefore, to prevent potential releases of untreated water into the soil or waterways and, consequently, into the marine and coastal environment.

The most serious violations found concerned the washing of trucks and cars. During the investigations it emerged that the commercial activity, in addition to operating in the absence of the required single environmental authorisation, delivered industrial waste water, without any purification treatment, directly onto adjacent land and, only to a minimal extent, into public sewers.

In addition, the illicit management of the sewage sludge produced and not disposed of within the legal deadlines was ascertained and, finally, the transfer of the water deriving from the toilets present within the commercial activity directly into the subsoil. In consideration of the environmental violations ascertained, the commercial activity, which occupies a total area of approximately 1,200 square metres, was seized and the person responsible was reported for various crimes.

The checks underway at the oil mills operating in the province of Crotone have made it possible to ascertain, at an oil mill in Isola Capo Rizzuto, the carrying out of the commercial activity in violation of the current legislation on the management of the vegetation water produced, while in a marble factory located in Crotone it was ascertained that the commercial activity was carried out in the absence of the required authorization for emissions into the atmosphere. A total of 5 environmental regulations were issued to the owners of the three inspected commercial activities which, if complied with within the established deadlines, will allow the regularization of the companies which will be able to continue to operate while also respecting the environment.
