The Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Reggio Calabria arrested a 53-year-old headed for Sicily driving an articulated lorry carrying around seven kilos of drugs in Villa San Giovanni, in flagrante delicto for drug trafficking. The vehicle was intercepted near the landing stages.
The driver had attracted the attention of the military for a careless maneuver performed and for a suspicious behavior carried out in sight of the patrol, circumstances which led the financiers to proceed with the check.
During the search, carried out with the precious help of the anti-drug dogs Syria and Quixy, the military found a large quantity of narcotic substances carefully hidden inside a box placed in the trailer, among the packages of various types of goods destined for various commercial establishments.
In particular, six blocks of cocaine weighing a total of 6.5 kilograms and approximately 500 grams of hashish divided into five blocks were discovered, for a total of approximately 7 kilograms of narcotic substances. In addition to the drugs, the vehicle used and the suspect’s mobile phone, deemed useful for the subsequent development of the investigations, were also seized.
The driver of the articulated lorry, resident in the province of Ragusa with a police record, was arrested for violating the law on narcotic substances and taken to the “Arghillà” prison in Reggio Calabria.
According to investigators’ estimates, the seized narcotic, if placed on the market, could have brought in up to over one and a half million euros.
