There is a piece of Messina that lands in the Olympus of Italian volleyball. The Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina team, a historic Italian volleyball club from the Marche region, has won promotion to the SuperLega. The Messina player is also among the ranks of coach Ortenzi's team Marcus Cubitus. Born in 1992 in Taormina, the center back of the Marche team is one of the veterans of Grottazzolina (a town of just over 3 thousand souls in the province of Fermo) being in his fourth season in the Marche.
Grottazzolina beat Siena in the decisive Game 2, after also winning Game 1, with a score of 1-3. Cubito with Grottazzolina had won the promotion play-offs from A2 to A3 and the Italian Super Cup in the category in 2022.
