Morning of severe inconvenience for motorists on the Messina ring road, towards Palermo, due to an accident between a Fiat 500 and a van which remained stationary inside the Banditore tunnel, creating a huge queue between the San Filippo and Boccetta junctions.
The accident caused long queues and quickly brought traffic to a standstill. Only cars manage to pass beyond the critical point, proceeding slowly along the only partially free lane. Different situation for heavy vehicles, which are stopped before entering the tunnel for safety reasons.
Among these also an ATM bus, blocked together with the trucks awaiting reopening. The operations to remove the vehicle and make the tunnel safe were therefore slowed down, with inevitable repercussions on the entire road system of the ring road.
