Aeolian Islands: roads and redevelopment of the territory, the strategic interventions scheduled by the metropolitan city of Messina is underway

The metropolitan city of Messina accelerates on the redevelopment of the Aeolian archipelago infrastructures, starting an articulated plan of interventions aimed at improving Safety, stability and functionality of the main connection routes between the islands of Lipari, Vulcano and Filicudi.

In particular, Palazzo dei Leoni has entrusted the preparatory activities of study and design, financed by Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportwhich will define the real assessment of the structural and geomorphological risks involving bridges Pietraliscia, Bianca Lisca, the “Porticello” bridgefalling on the provincial road 180, and the bridge on the provincial road 181/E, which wind in the area of ​​the former pumice quarries, affected by important conditions of instability.

The Technical investigations and specialist analyzes The objective of defining safety strategies and stabilization of infrastructure in a particularly fragile area from an environmental and morphological point of view are aimed.

But the road redevelopment activity of the former province continues with further actions.

The Executive project for extraordinary maintenance works of the provincial roads 178, 179 and 181/B, financed with public funds for a total amount of approximately 259,291 euroswhich provide punctual and widespread interventions along the streets of metropolitan competence, with the aim of restoring the safety conditions and resolve structural and functional critical issues of the road arteries in the islands concerned.

In parallel, a strategic project for the consolidation of the gallery and the coastal defense on the provincial road 181 of Pignataro, in Lipari, for a total amount of 399,000 euros.

The intervention aims to strengthen the ridge above the gallery and to protect a stretch of road subject to erosion, in an area of ​​great importance for internal mobility on the island. These works are fundamental to guarantee the stability of the territory and prevent any risks related to instability phenomena.

In addition, operations of Darkness and cleaning of the quays and road appurtenancesactivities that take on a preventive role in view of the summer season and the growing attention to the prevention of fires, thus protecting public safety and the environment.

In this sense, they are in constant contact with the Mayor of Lipari Riccardo Gullo and with the Metropolitan councilor Antonino Russoto effectively coordinate the safety program and give adequate solutions to the Eolian community “.
