“It is essential that all institutions fully assume the responsibility of addressing the Amaco dispute with the utmost urgency. For this reason I have formally asked the President of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto, and the Regional Councilor for Transport, Gianluca Gallo, to immediately convene an institutional table for discussion and consultation. It is time to put aside any other evaluation and work together to identify a concrete and definitive solution that safeguards the future of the company, guarantees all employment levels, without exception, and ensure the continuity of an essential public service for our community. The Municipality of Cosenza will do its part with a spirit of loyal institutional collaboration and with the sole objective of protecting workers, citizens and local public transport”.
This is what Mayor Franz Caruso declared in announcing the letter sent to the President of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto, and to the Regional Councilor for Transport, Gianluca Gallo, with which he requested the urgent convening of an institutional table dedicated to the Amaco dispute.
In the letter, the First Citizen highlights how the company’s situation requires “an acceleration of institutional discussion so that we can reach, in the shortest possible time, a concrete and definitive solution that guarantees the future of the company, the protection of all levels of employment and the continuity of the local public transport service”.
Mayor Franz Caruso proposed that the Municipality of Cosenza, the bankruptcy trustee, the trade union organizations and all the institutional subjects involved take part in the table, in the belief that only a broad, serious and timely discussion can allow the definition of a shared and sustainable strategy within the deadlines set by the procedure.
In the request addressed to the leaders of the Region, the First Citizen also underlined the need to avoid irreversible decisions while a process is still underway that can lead to a positive solution to the dispute, avoiding consequences that would be very serious both for the workers and for an indispensable public service for the city.
