Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl and Uiltucs Uil Calabria proclaim the strike for the entire work shift on 15 August 2026. The decision was taken to reaffirm the value of rest on public holidays and the right of workers in the trade to spend the August holiday with their families.
The trade union organizations highlight how the 15th August holiday represents one of the “most significant moments of the year from a social, family and cultural point of view and believe that, except for truly indispensable activities, priority should be given to the closure of commercial establishments and modern organized distribution points of sale”.
At the same time as the strike was announced, an appeal was made to the President of the Calabria Region to evaluate any useful initiative to encourage the closure of commercial activities on August 15th.
«It is not just a trade union demand», Filcams CGIL, Fisascat CISL and Uiltucs UIL Calabria jointly declare, «but a choice of civility and balance between life and work times. Mid-August must also be able to represent for them an opportunity for rest, family sharing and participation in the social life of the communities.”
The Trade Unions also extend an invitation to businesses and employer associations to make a voluntary choice of social responsibility, avoiding openings on August 15th and contributing to enhancing the significance of the anniversary. The strike will affect the entire trade and modern distribution sector organized in the regional territory for the entire day of Saturday 15 August 2026.
